"I’ve seen a suspicious pop-up message on my computer whilst on bbc.co.uk. What should I do?"

The BBC uses Pop-Up Surveys across bbc.co.uk to gather user feedback. Usually, a message will appear on a webpage advising, ‘Do you have a few minutes to tell us what you think of this site?' and you can select either yes or no. These surveys help us to improve our services and we really value users for taking the time to complete one.

However, what should you do if you think a pop-up message asking you to take part in a survey is suspicious? Such messages, which may tempt you with a chance to win something, will not be authorised from the BBC and are most likely the result of a virus or an undesired download from another source. In such circumstances it's recommended that you ensure your security software is up to date before scanning your computer for any viruses/malware. Whilst we appreciate reports from users about any such pop up messages, we cannot do anything to prevent them or provide further support as the issue will be with the computer being used.
