BBC Help

Why have I lost BBC Radio services on Freeview in Scotland?

BBC Radio services on Freeview in Scotland have moved, so if you have lost all of these radio services permanently then please re-tune your Freeview TV or Set Top Box in order to restore them.

Most BBC Radio services are however unavailable in the evening on Freeview in Scotland. This is to allow BBC ALBA, the Gaelic television channel from Scotland, to broadcast.

This means that most BBC Radio services in Scotland will go off air during the hours that BBC ALBA broadcasts (17:00-00:00 on weekdays, 16:00-01:00 on Saturdays and 16:00-00:00 on Sundays) from Wednesday 8 June onwards. While these services are off-air, a message will appear on the screen explaining this and advising alternative ways to listen. All radio stations remain available outside of BBC ALBA's broadcast hours.

For more information about the BBC Alba changes, please visit the BBC Internet Blog.

The following radio services will remain on-air in the evenings during BBC ALBA's broadcast hours:

• BBC Radio 5 Live
• BBC Radio 1Xtra
• BBC Radio 6 Music

The radio services that will go off-air in the evenings to make space for BBC ALBA are:

• BBC Radio 1
• BBC Radio 2
• BBC Radio 3
• BBC Radio 4
• BBC Radio 4 Extra
• BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra
• BBC Asian Network
• BBC World Service
• BBC Radio Scotland
• BBC Radio nan Gaidheal

Note that all stations are still available on the following platforms: DAB, Internet Radio and free to air satellite.

Additionally, BBC Radio 1, 2, 3, 4, BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio nan Gaidheal remain available on FM.
