The Gaelic TV channel, BBC ALBA launched on Wednesday 8 June 2011 on Freeview.
To obtain this channel, viewers in Scotland will need to retune their Freeview equipment any time from lunchtime Tuesday 24 May onwards to pick up the new service when it launches on Wednesday 8 June.
For those viewers who have not retuned their equipment by Wednesday 8 June they may lose some of the BBC radio services until a retune is completed to retrieve them. The exceptions are BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio nan Gaidheal, which will not be affected.
Finally, it means that most BBC Radio services in Scotland will go off air in the evenings during the hours that BBC ALBA broadcasts (17:00-00:00 on weekdays, 16:00-01:00 on Saturdays and 16:00-00:00 on Sundays) from Wednesday 8 June onwards. While these services are off-air, a message will appear on the screen explaining this and advising alternative ways to listen. All radio stations remain available outside of BBC ALBA's broadcast hours.
The following radio services will remain on-air in the evenings during BBC ALBA's broadcast hours:
• BBC Radio 5 Live
• BBC Radio 1Xtra
• BBC Radio 6 Music
