How do I check if cookies are enabled after I have reopened my browser?

These guides are for the latest version of each browser, so please ensure that you have updated your browser otherwise the advice below may not work.

Windows

Internet Explorer

1. Choose Tools, then Internet Options from the sub menu
2. Click on the Privacy tab
3. Click on the Advanced button
4. Tick the Override automatic cookie handling box
5. Select Accept (or Prompt)
6. Ensure Always allow session cookies box is ticked too
7. Click OK.
   
     

Mozilla FireFox

1. Choose Tools from main menu, then Options... from the sub menu
2. Click on the Privacy section
3. Under the History heading, select Firefox will: Use custom settings for History
4. Check and make sure Accept cookies from Site box is ticked
5. From the Keep until dropdown list, either select they expire or ask me every time. If you choose ‘I close Firefox', cookies will get removed automatically each time you close Firefox
6. Click OK.
   
    

Google Chrome

1. Choose Options from Customise and control Google Chrome icon on top right of the browser
2. Click on the Under the Bonnet tab
3. Click on the Content settings... button
   
     
4. Under Cookies section, check and make sure Clear cookies and other site data when I close my browser is unchecked
5. Click Close.
   
     

Opera

1. Select Settings from Menu, then Preferences...
2. Click on the Advanced tab
3. Select Cookies section from the left
4. Ensure Delete new cookies when exiting Opera is unchecked
5. Click OK.
   
     

Macintosh

Safari

If you use a shared or public computer, you may wish to reset Safari to prevent other people from seeing which webpages you have visited. To prevent resetting Safari from removing cookies, please do the following

1. Select Safari from main menu, then Reset Safari....
2. Uncheck Remove all cookies
3. Click on the Reset button to reset.
   
    

Mozilla FireFox

1. Select FireFox from main menu, then Preferences. 
2. Click on the Privacy section
